This is my second six fan arts series, which started out as Black women we didn’t learn enough about in school. Throughout creating the illustrations it shifted to be Black women who have been doing the hard work and fighting the good fight for years and years with very little recognition or praise. When you google women who changed the world, most of the results will be entire lists of white women with the occasional Sojourner Truth or Harriet Tubman. Influential Black women didn’t only exist in the 1800’s! They have been doing important and thankless work that pushed boundaries and made lasting impact.
From left to right, and top to bottom, they are Miss Major, Angela Davis, Marsha P. Johnson, Oluwatoyin Salau, and bell hooks. (sixth person upcoming)
